Background
About Hinge
Founded in 2012, Hinge is a contemporary dating app designed to foster meaningful connections in the digital age. Unlike traditional swiping apps, Hinge focuses on quality over quantity, encouraging users to create detailed profiles and engage in more authentic conversations, leading to more meaningful and lasting relationships.

Project Outline
The project aimed to evaluate user behavior on the platform in relation to the application's intended vision. The initial phase involved pinpointing deviant behaviors, with a specific focus on addressing the prevalent issue of ghosting. Acknowledging the adverse impact of ghosting on user self-esteem and subsequent diminished affinity for the platform, the approach aligned with Hinge's ongoing efforts. Utilizing a behavioral perspective, the project sought to minimize the instances of ghosting and contribute to an enhanced and more positive user experience.

Outcome
Behavioral Insights
-
Ghosters (perpetrators) and Ghostees (victims) lack defined personas, as most users have experienced both roles. The key driver of the phenomenon is the context in which the interaction occurs.
-
Examination of various contexts highlighted a sense of reduced inhibition on virtual dating platforms as a leading cause of ghosting. UX interventions focused on adjusting the context (the platform) to subtly nudge users into considering the impact of their actions.
